What a gel pedicure is

A gel pedicure is a regular pedicure finished with gel polish instead of traditional lacquer. The gel goes on in thin coats and is cured under an LED lamp, so it is fully dry before you leave the chair. No smudged big toe in your car, no waiting around with your feet propped up.

Toenails grow slower than fingernails, which is why gel shines on toes. A good gel pedicure keeps its color and gloss far longer than regular polish, and it shrugs off the scuffs that come with closed-toe shoes, gym sessions and summer pool decks.

The pedicure part matters just as much as the polish. Gel only looks good on a nail that's been cleaned up properly, with the skin around it smooth and the edges tidy. That's why we treat the gel as the finish line of a real pedicure, not a shortcut around one. You still get the soak, the shaping, the foot work and the massage that make a pedicure feel like a break.

Who a gel pedicure is for

If you hate chipped toenail polish but don't want to be in a salon chair every two weeks, this is your service. It's a great fit for nurses, teachers, servers and anyone else who spends the day standing. It's also popular before vacations, weddings and the first warm weekend at Huntington Beach.

Gel is also a smart pick if you've had polish peel off your toes within days. The cured finish bonds better to a properly prepped nail, and prep is where we spend our time. A clean, well-prepped nail is the difference between gel that lasts and gel that lifts.

The Brazilian difference on your toes

Most pedicures push the cuticle back and call it done. Danielle uses the Brazilian method, which means dry skin is removed across the whole nail plate, not just nudged toward the edge. On toes, where skin builds up thicker, that detail is easy to see.

Gel color is then laid slightly under the cuticle line, so you don't get that pale gap at the base as soon as the nail starts to grow. Any polish that touches the skin is cleaned back with an orange-wood stick wrapped in cotton and dipped in remover. The result is a crisp, clean edge on every toe, even the tiny ones.

What happens at your gel pedicure appointment

Every appointment happens in our private suite at 30183 Detroit Rd, one client at a time. Here is how it usually goes.

  • We talk through your color, shape and pedicure tier before anything starts.
  • Old polish comes off and your feet soak in warm water.
  • Nails are trimmed, shaped and filed to the length you like.
  • Dry cuticle skin is cleared across the nail bed, Brazilian style.
  • Heels and calluses are smoothed, with extra scrub and mask time on Tipsy and Wasted tiers.
  • Massage, then the nail surface is cleansed so gel can grip.
  • Base, color and top coat go on in thin layers, each one cured under the lamp.
  • Edges are cleaned back with cotton and remover for a sharp finish, and cuticle oil goes on last.

Aftercare for gel toes

Gel is tough, but a little care stretches it further.

  • Rub cuticle oil around each toenail a few times a week.
  • Wear roomy shoes for the rest of the day if you can.
  • Moisturize your feet daily, but wipe lotion off the nail surface.
  • Don't pick or peel at a lifted edge; book a fix or removal instead.
  • Come back for professional removal rather than scraping gel off at home.

Gel pedicure pricing

Pricing is built from two parts: the pedicure tier you choose and the gel polish add-on. The Sober Pedicure covers the relaxing essentials, Tipsy adds more pampering, and Wasted is the full spa visit with exfoliating scrub, hydrating mask and a longer massage. Gel polish is added to any of the three. If your feet are already in good shape and you only want new color, a gel polish change on toes is a quicker option. Current prices are listed above and on Booksy.

Want art on the big toes, a French tip or a chrome finish? Those are priced as add-ons and we'll confirm the total before we start, so there are no surprises at checkout.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does a gel pedicure last on toes?

A gel pedicure usually lasts longer than a gel manicure because toenails grow slowly. Many clients go several weeks before they want a refresh, and the color often outlasts the look of the regrowth. How long yours lasts depends on your nail growth and footwear.

Is a gel pedicure worth it compared to regular polish?

Yes, if you're tired of chipped toes. Gel is cured hard before you leave, so there's no drying time and it resists scuffs from shoes far better than regular lacquer. The add-on costs $15 on top of your pedicure.

Can I wear closed-toe shoes right after a gel pedicure?

Yes. Gel is fully cured under the lamp, so socks and sneakers won't smudge it. We still suggest roomy shoes for the rest of the day for comfort after the foot work.

How is gel polish removed from toenails?

Gel should be soaked off, not peeled. We gently break the top coat, let the gel loosen, then lift it away without scraping the natural nail. Peeling it at home can take layers of nail with it.

Which pedicure tier should I pick with gel?

Pick based on how much foot care you want. Sober covers the essentials, Tipsy adds more pampering, and Wasted includes an exfoliating scrub, hydrating mask and extended massage. Any tier can be finished with gel polish.

Can I get just a gel color change on my toes?

Yes. A gel polish change for toes is $28 and covers removal and new color without the full pedicure. It's a good choice between full pedicures.

Is a gel pedicure safe for my nails?

A gel pedicure is safe when the nail is prepped gently and the gel is removed properly. We use medical-grade sterilization on every implement and never pry gel off. Healthy nails stay healthy with good removal habits.

Can I get a gel pedicure if I have a fungal toenail?

We recommend checking with a doctor first if you think you have a nail infection. Polish over an active issue can hide changes you should be watching. Text us if you're unsure and we'll talk it through.

Do you do French tips or nail art on gel pedicures?

Yes. French tips, ombre, chrome and simple accent art can all go on toes. Mention it when you book so we set aside enough time.

How far ahead should I book a gel pedicure in Westlake?

Book two to three weeks ahead for evenings and weekends. Weekday daytime slots open up sooner. Spring and early summer fill fastest, so plan ahead before vacations.
