Safe Gel Removal and Nail Repair in Westlake
Safe gel removal in Westlake should leave your natural nails intact, not thin, bendy and sore. We take off gel, dip, Gel X and builder gel slowly and gently, and we fix broken or lifted nails so one bad corner doesn't ruin the whole set.

What safe gel removal and repair involve
Removal is the step most people rush, and it's the step that does the most damage when it's done wrong. Gel and dip are meant to bond to the nail. When they're ripped, pried or drilled down too far, the top layers of your natural nail come off with them. That's where the white patches, peeling and sensitivity come from.
Safe removal means breaking the seal of the top coat, letting the product soften, and lifting it away gently. Thicker systems like dip powder, Gel X and builder gel take longer, and we let them. Repair covers a single broken nail, a crack, a lifted corner or a Gel X tip that popped off early.
Who needs removal or a repair
Come in for removal if you're taking a break from enhancements, switching from dip to builder gel, or have product that's grown out too far to fill. It's also for anyone who's been peeling gel off at home and wants to stop the damage before it gets worse.
A repair is for the nail that snagged on a car door or a sweater, or the extension that came off after a long week. If the rest of your set is in good shape, fixing one nail is better than living with a gap for two weeks.
It's also worth booking a removal if your product has been on much longer than planned. Gel and dip that stay on past their prime tend to lift, trap water and snag. Taking them off properly and giving the nails a short rest is often the quickest way back to strong, healthy nails.
Why the Brazilian approach protects your nails
Once the product is off, we don't just shape and send you out. Danielle uses the Brazilian method on the bare nail, removing dry skin across the whole nail bed instead of only pushing the cuticle back. Clearing that buildup lets you see the real condition of the nail and keeps fresh product from lifting at the base later.
If you're getting new color afterward, it's applied slightly under the cuticle line and the edges are cleaned back with an orange-wood stick wrapped in cotton and dipped in remover. Neat edges aren't just pretty. Product that touches the skin is one of the main reasons sets lift, and lifting is how breaks start.
We also use medical-grade sterilization on every implement, which matters even more when nails are thin or the skin around them is irritated from at-home picking. Clean tools and a gentle hand go together.

What happens at your removal appointment
Here is the step-by-step process for safe gel removal in our Westlake suite.
- We look at each nail and ask what you've been wearing and for how long.
- The top coat is gently filed to break the seal, staying well above the natural nail.
- Product is soaked with remover and wrapped so it can soften.
- Softened gel or dip is eased off with a clean pusher, never pried or ripped.
- Any remaining film is buffed lightly so the nail plate stays as thick as possible.
- Nails are shaped, cuticles are cleaned Brazilian style, and oil goes on.
- From there, you can leave bare, add regular polish, or start a new set.
Aftercare after removal
Nails right out of long-term product can feel softer for a bit. These habits help.
- Apply cuticle oil twice a day, working it into the nail plate.
- Keep nails shorter for a few weeks so they're less likely to bend or tear.
- Wear gloves for dishes and cleaning.
- Skip peel-off base coats and at-home picking.
- Consider a Luminary builder gel overlay if you want strength while nails recover.
Removal and repair pricing
Removal-only pricing depends on the product being removed, since dip and extensions take longer than gel polish. If you're getting new color, a gel polish change on hands or toes is $28 and includes the removal. Repairs are priced per nail. Prices not listed here are confirmed in Booksy or when you text us.
Not sure what you're wearing? That's common if your last set came from another salon. Send a photo when you book and we'll tell you how long to plan for and roughly what to expect.

Frequently asked questions
How do you remove gel nails without damage?
Gel comes off without damage when the top coat is filed lightly, the gel is soaked until it softens, and it's lifted off gently. Prying, peeling or drilling into the natural nail is what causes damage. We never rip product off.
Can I just peel off my gel polish?
No, peeling gel takes layers of your natural nail with it. That's what leaves nails thin, white and bendy. Book a removal or a gel polish change instead.
How long does gel removal take?
Gel polish removal is fairly quick, while dip powder, Gel X and builder gel take longer because the product is thicker. We don't rush the soak to save time.
Do you remove nails done at another salon?
Yes. We remove gel, dip, Gel X and builder gel from anywhere. Let us know what product you have when you book so we can plan the right amount of time.
Can you fix one broken nail?
Yes. Single nail repairs cover breaks, cracks, lifted corners and Gel X tips that popped off. Text a photo to (216) 260-4488 and we'll find a time.
Is acetone bad for your nails?
Acetone can dry out nails and skin, but used briefly for soak-off it's the gentlest way to remove gel and dip. We follow up with cuticle oil to put moisture back.
How do I fix damaged nails after removing acrylics or dip?
Keep nails short, oil them daily and give the damaged layers time to grow out. A thin builder gel overlay can protect weak nails while they recover.
Can I get new gel right after removal?
Yes, if the nails are in decent shape. A gel polish change is $28 and covers removal and new color in one visit.
Why does my gel keep lifting?
Lifting usually comes from leftover skin on the nail plate, product touching the cuticle, or oils on the nail before application. Brazilian cuticle prep and cleaned-back edges help prevent it.
Do you use drills to remove gel?
Any filing is kept to the top layers to break the seal, well above your natural nail. The rest of the product is softened and lifted off, not drilled down.
